A timber imported from Sweden, Russia and Finland. The colour is pale/yellowish Brown. It is a tight grained strong timber that is fairly hard and stable, with a medium over all strength. It stains and paints to an excellent finish.
Idigbo Hardwood
A timber imported from West Africa. It is a straw coloured hardwood that is similar in appearance to Oak. It is very durable and has a natural resistance to moisture. Suitable for gates as it has a good overall strength and finishes well. It required less maintenance than softwood.
Gate Care
Which ever timber you choose, your gate will need to be looked after. Rot is only caused when the timber gets wet and remains wet due to poor maintenance. Firstly all wooden gates must be dry and treated correctly ideally before they are fitted with recommended stains and preservatives or paint. Avoid the use of water based products primarily used for treating fencing. They should be periodically treated, ideally once or twice a year.
